Is your child more afraid of the dentist than the monster living under the bed? If so, then we have a few tips for you on how to make your child’s dental experience at Paramus Dental & Implant Center a lot less scary.

The first tip is to make sure you use positive words, such as “clean,” “healthy,” and “strong,” when talking to your child about the dentist. The words you use play a large role in how your child perceives different places.

The second tip: allow your child to listen to music or watch their favorite movie during the treatment. Allowing your child to do so will not only distract them from the procedure, but it will also provide a positive experience. Who wouldn’t want to go to the dentist, if it means they can watch their favorite shows? Most offices have TVs available to watch during procedures and cleanings. If the dentist does not have a TV available for your child, make sure your child has access to a smart device.

The third and final tip is to make sure you as a parent are a good example to your child. The way you react to or speak about the dentist’s office has a significant impact on how your child views the dentist (don’t talk about the dental office as if it is a scary place).  Make sure you use positive words and educate your children that the dental office is a fun and comfortable place to be.
