Dental bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. A non-removable appliance, dentures are created to aesthetically match your existing teeth for a more natural-looking smile. Bridges can be used to:
- Fill the spaces left by missing teeth
- Prevent existing teeth from shifting in the mouth
- Replace a removable partial denture
- Restore your ability to chew, speak, and eat normally
- Retain the natural shape of your face
- Enhance the beauty of your smile
Dental bridges are created using two crowns that are placed over the two teeth (known as abutment teeth) adjacent to the missing tooth space. Between the crowns, an artificial tooth (or teeth) known as a pontic will be attached and placed, making a literal tooth bridge. Bridges are created to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth for a smile that’s as beautiful as it is functional. While your temporary bridge is in place, avoid eating foods that are chewy or sticky so that you don’t accidentally pull the temporary restoration off. After your final bridge has been placed, it is fairly typical to experience numbness for several hours. During this time, avoid eating or drinking hot food or drinks and biting hard on anything. It is also common to experience some sensitivity or discomfort. Use a sensitive toothpaste, rinse with a warm salt water mixture, and/or take Tylenol or Advil in order to feel completely comfortable. If sensitivity or pain persists, please contact our office. Every effort will be made to see you as soon as possible.
