Our dentists use dental fillings to repair teeth that have minor damage or decay. Placed in just one appointment at Paramus Dental and Implant Center, fillings will restore function and, in some cases, aesthetics to your tooth and smile.
We offer composite (tooth-colored) fillings and amalgam (silver) fillings at our office. Composite fillings are closely matched to the color of existing teeth for the most natural look possible. During your consultation with one of our dentists, you will discuss which type of filling material is right for you.
Your filling will be placed in once visit at our office. After removing the damaged portion of the tooth, our dentist will thoroughly clean the remaining healthy tooth. Then, if the decay was close to the tooth’s nerve, the dentist will apply a special medication to protect you. Finally, the filling will be placed, shaped, and polished to match the contours of your tooth.

The local anesthesia should wear offer one to three hours after your procedure. Once the anesthesia has worn off, you may begin eating again. It is important that you refrain from eating before this in order to avoid biting your tongue, lip, or cheeks. Be especially cautious when drinking hot liquids, as they could potentially burn your mouth while you are still numb. If you experience any sensitivity to hot or cold following the procedure, remember that this is normal and can last for a few days to a few weeks.
You may brush and floss as normal after the procedure as no special care is required to maintain composite or amalgam fillings. Our dentists recommend using fluoride toothpaste to minimize the risk of tooth decay forming around the filling.
